Russian Sage
Perovskia
Russian Sage, also known as Perovskia, is one of my favorite perennials. I love the airiness of the plant and particularly the contrast of its lavender blue flowers against its gray-green leaves.
Russian Sage is a woody perennial that grows approximately 4 feet tall and between 3-4 feet wide. Its gray-green leaves are slightly scented. Russian Sage is easy to grow and tolerates poor soil and drought, which makes it great for climates that experience long, hot summers.
It does best planted in full sun and blooms from July until the fall.
To prevent Russian Sage from flopping, it is best to prune it down to about 6 inches in the spring before the new growth starts.
I cut Russian Sage and use it in flower arrangements. The blue/purple gray color looks great planted with yellows and whites in the garden.
