Butterfly Bush
Buddleia Davidi

Butterlfy BushButterfly Bush (Buddleja davidii) has a prime place in butterfly and hummingbird gardens. Butterfly bush can become 6'-12' tall and have a spread of 4'-15' in warm climates. In order to keep this plant controlled, it is important to prune it back to the ground in the winter. It will re-emerge from its roots in spring. Blooms tend to be larger and more prolific on the butterfly bush's new growth. You should treat butterfly bush as if it were an herbaceous perennial rather than a shrub. Blooms on butterfly bushes can be purple, pink, white, or red, and they usually have an orange "throat" in the center.

Although Butterfly Bush is an excellent hummingbird and butterfly plant, it can become invasive in some parts of the U.S. However, if you keep it under control, you can have much enjoyment watching the many butterflies and hummingbirds that your plants attract.
