Blooming Houseplants
Blooming houseplants enable us to bring the beauty of the outside inside any time of year. It's true that blooming houseplants require more care and maintenance than foliage houseplants. However, there is nothing like the smell of a gardenia, the blooms of an African violet or the heart-shaped leaves of a cyclamen during the dull winter months.
Houseplants, also called indoor plants, brighten up your home or office. Caring for houseplants makes for a great hobby during the long inclement months of winter, and even throughout the year. Many gardeners refuse to twiddle their green thumbs as the long winter months keep them indoors. They actively extend their gardening pleasure through the winter months tending to a wide array of indoor plants. February is the time to start fertilizing these plants and making plans for putting some of them outdoors after the last frost.
Care and Maintenance
Most people make the mistake of overwatering plants. When in doubt, it is best to allow a plant to stay on the dry side. This is especially true during the winter months when plants go through a dormant stage. It is important not to fertilize houseplants during the dormant season. The one exception is blooming houseplants. They may be fertilized on a regular basis throughout the winter. The following blooming plants are excellent choices for the Fall and Winter season:
